BROSETA
The apartment is located in a building formerly belonging to the congregation of Sacramentine nuns in Bergamo. Nestled between the nuns’ catholic school and the historic city center, its renovation is guided by the principles of preservation and thoughtful enhancement. Through meticulous removal, the original spatial integrity is restored, and stripped out of the inessential additions accumulated over time. Concurrently, a minimal linear partition was introduced to establish the traditional dichotomy between servant space and served space. Light and shadows manifest in fleeting choreographies that endow the space and its features, seeking a reference to paintings by Vilhelm Hammershøi. Built-in furniture has been specifically conceived to delicately blend with the given framework and provide touches of colour and grids to the white canvas.
At first glance, the Broseta apartment might look like an ordinary house, yet, upon closer inspection the details unveil a narrative of subtle nuances, like the position of a door, the proportion of a corridor, the element of the bathtub, and so on. Each design choice, no matter how small, invite inhabitants to engage in a private and dynamic performance. Domesticity is a spatial reality as well as a mental territory.
